You know I’m crazy about anything having to do with roses, right? I was tickled when I came across

silicone rose shaped ice cube trays. I’ll be filling them with water and adding a drop or two of natural food dye to each cube to create beautiful colored roses. When someone needs a cold glass of water on a hot day, not only will they get a refreshing glass of water with all its benefits, they’ll also get roses floating in their glass for a touch of whimsy!

Now I’m trying to think of other uses for my colored rose ice cubes? I can see these floating in some white sangria, but I need some more ideas.What would you do with colored rose ice cubes?  Pure Love Grows XOXOXO

As President Obama announced yesterday when he visited some N.J. beach towns, “The Jersey Shore is back in business!” Many of my beloved state’s shore towns have made remarkable recoveries after nasty Sandy blew through last fall, and most of the beaches are open!
I have my beach bag ready to go at a moment’s notice, and I thought it would be fun to talk about what goes in our beach bags. Here’s a glimpse into mine. I like to keep just the essentials so I’m not lugging too much with me.
My iPod with some new fun music. I already have my classic summer songs mix on my iPod along with a lot of my other favorite music. I’m also going to be adding something new for some beach listening – I’m thinking it’s going to be the new Vampire Weekend . Have you heard it? Can you recommend it?
There has to be some reading material in there, too, and I’m tucking Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham into my bag. It’s the first novel by the actress (you’re probably familiar with her from “Gilmore Girls” and “Parenting”) and it’s getting great reviews and made the NYT best seller list.
On the practical side, I’ll need sunscreen, and I’ll turn to the Environmental Working Group http://www.ewg.org/2013sunscreen/”’s 2013 Guide to Safer Sunscreens to make sure that the ones I choose are protecting my skin and the environment.
This organic bamboo beach towel seems perfect for my bag. It’s supposed to stay soft even when it hang dries. I love that I won’t need a clothes dryer to keep it from scratching my skin.
A reusable water bottled filled with ice water is a must – no one time use bottles for me.
Healthy snacks like nuts and apples.
And, a few dollars, because while I love my healthy snacks, every once in a while when I hear the ice cream man ring his bell on the beach, I run and get an ice cream sandwich like I’m a little kid!

The charm of this quaint bar in the back of an ally way is that it’s furnished in an eclectic mix of comfortable furniture – some traditional tables and chairs, some living room pieces. All the furniture is pushed together so you never know who you’re going to sit next to. We always meet the most interesting people when we sit on the second floor.Now, I know I said I like going there because nobody knows our name, and I do. There are nights when John and I don’t want to run into our friends and neighbors, no matter how much we love them. But, talking to new, interesting people can lead to the best conversations.And, we’ve had plenty of great conversations in this two-story bar that’s floor to ceiling nautical with paintings of boats and sea treasures. Plenty of authentic rowing memorabilia hanging on the walls.If you’re fortunate enough to live near Lambertville, I highly recommend this warm, friendly spot to have before dinner cocktail or after dinner drinks. They don’t serve food, only drinks. That makes the place a little bit cooler in my opinion.If you can, make a day or a weekend out of your trip to Lambertville.

It’s a charming town with antique shops, art galleries, and other independent stores all along the Delaware River. The architecture of the town is beautiful. If you have enough time, walk across the bridge into New Hope, PA where there is more beautiful sites to see, stores to peruse, and restaurants to dine.

The Boat House is located at 8 Coryell Street in Lambertville, NJ. And, now that I have you totally interested in my one of my favorite secret (okay not-so-secret anymore) places to disappear, tell me about yours. It doesn’t have to be in New Jersey. When you think farmers markets, you probably think of piles and piles of locally grown, beautifully colored fruits and vegetables. Do you ever think of bunches and bunches of locally grown, beautifully colored flowers, too?

Here’s why I love buying flowers that have been locally grown.

 

  • Local flowers are awesome for the environment. Small, local growers often use sustainable practices so that their flower farms don’t harm the land. They’re also a haven for bees that are attracted to the flowers and will spend time in the flower fields before heading off to help pollinate nearby apple orchards, watermelon patches, squash and so much more. Don’t assume that local flowers are grown sustainably, though. Ask when you see the flower merchant at the farmers market or at a roadside stand where the flowers are grown and what sustainable practices are used in the flower fields.
  • Buying local flowers helps to support the local agricultural economy. I want open land to stay open land, don’t you?
  • I never know what I’m going to get! Flowers are seasonal, and the beautiful colors and varieties in the bouquets of local flowers change every few weeks. I love that.
  • The prices can be such a bargain. Check out the prices of those beautiful bouquets at the farmers market. They’re incredibly reasonable because they’re grown in season and aren’t shipped far. I can get a fresh bouquet each week without blowing my budget.

Of course, as you know, roses are my absolute favorite flower. When they aren’t in season, I know I can buy organic roses, but when they are in season, buying local roses marries my love for roses and my love for supporting local growers. I found this very useful resource to help me find local rose growers on the Association of Specialty Cut Flowers Growers website. I can find local rose growers, or any local flower growers, by using their flower search function. How cool is that?

Would you believe it if I said that there have been times when I’ve questioned whether Jing Ai was going to make it or not? I bet you probably would believe it. It’s only human nature to have a little self-doubt once in a while when you’re going after what you want in life. I’ve found that the key is to shove that self-doubt out of the way as quickly as possible, because the only way I know to make my dreams come true is believe in myself.

Self-doubt is fear, and it is important to not let fear stop you from believing in yourself, your dreams, and the fact that you can live a full life doing what you dream of doing. Every day I’m rewarded for believing in myself. Some days, it’s in a small way when someone writes a stellar review of one of my products or comments on

Jing Ai’s “https://www.facebook.com/JingAiskin”Facebook page about how great my Duo makes their skin look. Other days, the reward is pretty big like the nomination I recently received for the Savor the Success Fastest Growing Company of the Year Award 2013!   Later this week, I’ll be traveling to New York city to the Rock the World conference for the award ceremony. The conference gathers America’s top, female entrepreneurs and executives to inspire and empower women to build a prosperous business and life. Whether I win or not, having Savor the Success recognize Jing Ai and the amazing year that we’ve had is a huge reward for believing in myself. It’s an honor to be nominated with such other amazing entrepreneurs. I do savor every little bit of success I have because I deserve to.  Those little whispers of self-doubt that I used to have in my head from time-to-time? Guess what? Today is the last day of Earth Day month!   But, I try to live by the belief that every day is Earth Day.  I could say it any day of the year and be right on track.

In my personal life, I try to love the earth in the same way many people do. I consume less. I buy eco-friendly products and organic food when I can get my hands on it. I recycle.When I started Jing Ai, I knew I wanted my company’s values to match my family’s values. That’s why from day one, I’ve been working at improving ingredients, packaging, and any area of Jing Ai’s operations that I can make more eco-friendly.

I just returned from my weekend at the New York City Green Festival and had the best time meeting people who care about the environment. I had so much fun sharing Jing Ai’s story with anyone who would listen. One of the stories I shared over and over is about Jing Ai’s packaging.All of our containers, pencils and tubes can be recycled. And, the packages that are made from paperboard for Jing Ai Masquerade Concealer and the Sierra Glow Duo are up to 100% recycled – with up to 95% post-consumer content. The weekend went so fast, and now, I have another big week ahead of me. I’m happily hustling to get ready for some majorly important meetings with big stores and boutiques on Friday of this week – wish me luck! Then on Saturday and Sunday, the 20 & 21, I’ll be selling at the New York City Green Festival for Earth Day Weekend.

If you can get to NYC this weekend, you absolutely want to stop by this festival at Javitz Center North. There will be an organic, vegetarian and vegan food court, the Sierra Club Green Cinema, eco-fashion exhibits, live music, an organic beer and wine garden (I hope to slip away from my table for a few minutes for a little tipple!), speakers, and a Green Marketplace.I’ll be spending most of my time in the Green Marketplace where you can purchase Jing Ai products. I talk a lot about my Sierra Glow Duo, and I will have that product with me at the New York City Green Festival.
