Cyber Monday Ideas
Cyber Monday is full of awesome deals, but the best part!! You get to stay in your favorite jammies, enjoy a cup of perfectly brewed organic coffee, and shop to your heart’s content from your breakfast table on your laptap or iPad. LOVE it!
I’ll definitely be hitting Kickstarter this year when I’m holiday shopping from the comfort of my own home so I can get the ultimate hip gifts for my really hard-to-buy-for loved ones. If you don’t know about Kickstater yet, let me fill you in.
Kickstater is a website that helps creative people fund their projects. Artists, musicians, filmakers, clothing designers – all sorts of creative types – can present their ideas on Kickstarter and raise funds through small donations (as little as $1), and those small donations add up.
What does this have to do with your holiday shopping? You know those hard-to-buy-for friends and family who don’t want anything and don’t need anything? I’m thinking they’d be thrilled to have a donation made in their honor to help fund a creative project.
For your grandparents, look into donating to projects like Young@Heart , a rock group ranging in age from 73 to 89 years old that’s raising money to fund their 30th anniversary album.
For your aunt who loves chocolate, something like Raw Shakti Chocolate would be a great choice. This North Carolina artisan chocolate company needs funds to buy a machine that would increase production.
For your friend who loves eco-fashions but insists she wants nothing this year, I can’t imagine she’d object to have a donation given in her honor to a company like Belindabilly that uses organic and fair trade materials. The designer is raising money to take her fall 2012 collection to Fashion Week runways.
When it comes time to give a gift to your loved one that doesn’t need or want a gift, all you’ll have to do is present a card with a handmade note inside saying that you donated in their honor to a really cool, creative project. Telling your grandparents you helped fund a rock album in their honor is absolutely more hip than buying them a digital frame at 3 a.m. on Black Friday. I’m sure they’d agree.
